I respect McCain for his suffering and for all the pain he went through - and command him for his choice not to have preferred treatment during his captiveness.
However... heroes are defined by their actions. Saving lives, often at the risk of their own's, defeating alone the enemy, conquering a hill, saving a bridge against the odds, resquing fellow soldier from danger. McCain did nothing of this. He suffered, yes, but so do millions of people.
